Kostoľany pod Tribečom

St George’s Church in Kostoľany pod Tribečom forms an important representative of Central European pre-Romanesque art. The wall paintings in the interior belong not only to the eldest and best preserved in the Slovak Republic, but in the whole of Central Europe.

The Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic was established on 1st April 2002 under the Act no. 49/2002 Coll. of Laws on the Protection of Monuments and Historic sites. Recruitment was based on the The Monuments Board and staff of the Monuments Institute offices on district and regional level, who had worked in the services accountable for a state monument care under the previous legislation.
